Problem with Vol env attack

    Message from john fulgor on
    Good morning,
I've opened an existing sf2 soundfont, and selected a preset. A table is displayed, showing global and section (group of notes) parameters like pan, pitch resonance, envelope...
1)Some parameters works only globally (pan, pitch)
2)Some parameters have no effect at all (Envelope)
Why some parameters are marked with a (x)?
I would like to change the preset attack time, so to have a very slow attack. How can I do it?
(I used the virtual keyboard to test the result of the changes)
    Thank you

You should be changing your parameters at the "instrument" stage. Use the "global" values or individual notes as appropriate.

I think the x means that whatever is marked is not available.

Everything in the Instruments section works with real values.
However, many settings (indicated by x) in the Presets section work relatively to the settings in the instrument section.

In other words, if the value in the instrument section is 2, if you want to halve this value in the presets section and there is an (x) indicator next to that setting, you have to enter 0.5 as a multiply value there. So the value of 2 is multiplied by 0.5 to get 1.

In addition, there are certain default settings in the global section for empty cells for which a setting is not entered in the Instruments-section. For example, the default setting for attack is 0.001. And in this case: Entering 2, 3, 4, 5 or, 10 here in the Presets-section doesn't make much difference. You'd better try by entering a large value (for example, 500) for a noticeable change. 0.001 x 500 = 0.500
Better yet, make the actual settings in the Instruments section. So you enter the actual values and don't bother with relative values (multiplication).
