Quality of forum discussions

The forum on this website is a place for exchanging ideas on the main topics of soundfonts and Polyphone. It is an important source of information, and here are a few simple rules to follow:

• before asking a question, use the search function to check that the subject has not already been addressed;
• be specific in your messages and titles so that future readers can easily understand them;
• illustrate or give examples if possible, to avoid misunderstandings;
• don′t change the subject of a discussion, but open another discussion instead;
• be open to dialogue and don′t impose your point of view.

Sharing soundfonts

This section of the website lets you share soundfonts. To add a soundfont:

• check beforehand that sharing is authorized and do not violate any licenses;
• if you are the author of the soundfont, choose the license you want (this page describes the licenses usually assigned);
• if you are not the author, choose the license respecting the initial license if it exists or “public domain”
• specify the source if it is known.

Also pay attention - if possible, as this is not always the case - to the license of the sounds used in soundfonts.

The category, attributes, tags and description may be edited by other members as they consider appropriate. Soundfonts of questionable quality or infringing a license may also be removed from the repository.

User ranking

As a security measure and to enable better distinction between the users of the website, ranks are calculated and assigned to each user according to the activity. Activity is determined on the basis of participation in the forum or shared soundfonts, and the calculation of ranks may change according to the context.

New

After registering on the site, the user has the “New” rank, which persists for 7 days, regardless of activity on the site.

Limitations:

• the size of shared soundfonts is limited to 20 MB;
• any discussion initiated by sending a private message must be approved by a moderator;
• links in forum messages, comments, descriptions of shared soundfonts and user profiles are not clickable.

Bronze

After a period of 7 days and little activity on the website, the “Bronze” rank will be awarded to the user. The limitations of the “New” rank are removed.

Rights granted:

• share soundfonts up to 100 MB in size;
• open a private discussion without moderator approval;
• display clickable links.

Silver

After more consistent activity on the website, a user will move up to the “Silver” rank.

Rights granted:

• rename and change the category of forum discussions;
• change the category of shared soundfonts.

Gold

The highest rank is “Gold”, and all accounts of this rank become “Premium”.

Enhanced functions:

• reporting a discussion in the forum will automatically lead to its deletion under certain conditions (discussion without reply and started by a “New” user);
• reporting a comment in the soundfonts section will automatically delete the comment.

Right granted:

• soundfont attributes can be changed.

Private messaging

Private messaging allows users to communicate in private. To prevent spam, all users with the “New” rank must wait for moderator approval before starting a new discussion. If users send each other a private message, the discussion is automatically authorized.

Canvassing by private message is strictly forbidden.
