I have been attempting to install version 1.9 64bit on Ubuntu 18.04, but can't seem to get it to work. I first tried downloading and installing via the deb file. When I clicked the Install button, the progress bar came up but a second later the display returned to the original window with the Install button. I then downloaded the source files, unzipped and ran the instructed make command. The build process appeared to run normally and the polyphone executable file was created in the RELEASE directory. When I attempted to run it I got a pop-up message that there was no installed application capable of opening the file. Can someone please advise?

ok on debian but do you use GDebi packet installer installer ? That should show you what packet is missing before you click install it.the ubuntu i have = 14.04
But do use the GDebi packet installer on ubuntu. -
I used GDebi to install and found that the missing dependency is libmidi3. Unfortunately, that package is not available for installation on Ubuntu 18.04. I have both libmidi4 and libmidi-dev installed though. I guess libmidi4 is not backwards compatible with libmidi3? At any rate, I installed the Windows version of Polyphone using WINE and it appears to run fine. Still, I would like to be able to run the Linux version. Hopefully there will be a build that is compatible with Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver soon.

I had a similar issue and was able to download and install the necessary package manually from the Ubuntu website.

It works great on my system, so hopefully it will work for you too. Please install at your own risk. -
This new installer appeared to work fine. No errors, but I am not sure how to launch the application. When I attempt to run /usr/bin/polyphone I get an error that there is no application installed for shared library files. Is polyphone launched via a different file? Sorry for the noob question!

Which OS and version did you install this on, and how did you install it? My .deb package is a bit of a hack based on the package from Polyphone's website, so it's possible that I did something wrong either in the compiling, or e.g., missing an important dependency in the .deb info.

Installed on Ubuntu 18.04 64bit, using the GDebi package installer.

Weird. I just tried installing and running the package in Xubuntu 18.04.1 64-bit running in VirtualBox, and I had no issues. It also works fine on my laptop (KDE Neon User Edition). Have you ever compiled and installed Polyphone manually? Perhaps there might be files left over from that?
Also, have you tried starting Polyphone from its launcher in the app menu? -
I had tried to compile version 1.9 manually when it was first released, but couldn't get it to work (see the beginning of this thread). If leftover files from that are causing an issue, how would be the best way to remove them?

I would uninstall my polyphone package, and then make sure there is no "polyphone" executable in either /usr/bin/ or /usr/local/bin/ (or any other executable paths you might have placed it in). Then reinstall the package and see if it works.
