Time Stretching

I'm really new to making sound fonts and stuff, and I was wondering if there is a way to stretch a sample to retain length through all pitches.

I dont mind doing it manually for each note, but I can't seem to find anything in polyphone that stretches the sample.

    I'm using polyphone 1.9.
    I downloaded this sample: https://www.looperman.com/loops/detail/156491/minor2go-type-guitar-assisted-suicide-122bpm-heavy-metal-electric-guitar-loop
And I cut it, but playing it at higher pitches plays the sample faster, resulting in a shorter sound.

Is there anyway I can simulate a longer sound by stretching the sample in polyphone?

Is there any way i can tweek the volume envelope and loop section to make it seem longer?

If not, are there any free programs that I can use to do this?

I attached what I have so far, in case it helps.

    Thanks for your time.

    Hello mike b,

Welcome to the world of SoundFonts!

TL;DR: Speed and pitch are bound to each other; you can't change one without changing the other. Also, if you do that, the sound quality will be worse.

Unfortunately, in SoundFonts, what you are describing is not possible.
If the pitch or length of the sample is increased, so is the speed or pitch.
This means that it is impossible to simulate this behaviour with SoundFonts. Tweaking the volume envelope or the loop section will not slow down the loop without reducing the pitch, or increase the pitch without increasing the speed.

There is a program called 'Audacity' that can stretch or increase the pitch without speedup, and results can sometimes be very high quality, however in most, if not in all cases you will get a permanent loss of quality. Therefore, it is not advisable to do these processes to samples. If you want the highest quality, you will have to add more samples.

    Thanks,

    Strix.

    Thanks for your posts guys.

I tried audacity and got a few notes stretched pretty well. Just haven't put em into a soundfont yet.

But nice one bottrop, sounds pretty good! thanks!

I also found some really good guitar soundfonts here: http://www.flamestudios.org/free/Soundfonts

now im trying to add distortion effects too it, but I cant get it to sound anywhere near as good as who ever made the sample from my first post. I'll keep playing with it, and maybe look for some VSTs or other plugins that work with LMMS, that focus on distortion/overdrive.

[Edit] I attached the basic soundfont of the chugs I did. but it still needs a lot of love to be worth it. I'm going to try to make the guitar sound fonts sound distorted instead, it is hopefully a little less tedious.

Heres a bit of a test using the soundfont: http://www.mediafire.com/file/3a958iri87ia63c/metal+chugs.wav
(wav and zips were too big...)

Its pretty bad lol. you have been warned...

maybe with some FX it would sound better. but I still think a distortion/overdrive FX for the clean guitar soundfonts would be a better choice in the long run.

Thanks again for the help guys!
