I am trying to correct the release portions of a mixture sample using Polyphone and creating 2 releases from these samples (a staccato and portato for each wav file). I haven't got a clue as to how to go about it and any help would be gratefully appreciated.

    Hello Mark,

Could you please describe a bit the soundfont you are creating? Are you using different instruments for different articulations or is it a same instrument on which you want to add different releases? Are the releases based on samples?

The sf2 format is unfortunately not appropriate to add sample-based releases, let alone the possibility to add different kinds of releases on a same instrument.

In the future I will add a tuto for this but the way to add a specific release is this way:

    • create a first instrument for the attack and sustain comprising "normal" samples, looped so that the sound lasts when we keep the key down (classic sustain)
    • create a second instrument for the release comprising the release samples with a very short blank at the beginning, looped so that the blank lasts when we keep the key down (the release is thus triggered when the key is released)
    • create a preset using these two instruments (the first instrument is heard when a key is triggered and the second instrument is triggered when the key is released).

    Regards,
    Davy

It's a Mixture rank for a GrandOrgue sampleset.

Could you please explain what you mean by "fixing the release"? What is wrong and what is the desired result?

The many of the samples within the folder seem to have been cut short of their completed default release so they sound dry. I'd like to be able to rectify this to prolong (and fade out) the release so that they sound more natural, capturing the church's acoustic reverb.

Sorry I forgot to show you this new tutorial:
    https://www.polyphone.io/o/documentation…-to-prepare-a-sample

All samples are generally taken "dry". I know for the church organ for example that the room can be filled with a special foam to remove the acoustic! The reverb is applied only after the instrument is made. Using software, you can redirect the sound of an instrument (from Polyphone, Fluidsynth, ...) to another software providing a nice reverb (convolution reverb for instance). Then the output of this software goes to the speakers.

Thanks. Would you have the documentation and tutorials available in pdf format for downloading?

I didn't think of it but this a good idea.

For each article in the documentation you will now find a button located next to the title. Pdf can be automatically generated and if you choose the other option a window will be open with only the content of the article, ready to be printed. The pdf is not styled yet, I'll improve it as soon as I find how.

I am pleased that you have taken up the idea. However, many pages have highlighted text that take one to other sections. It would help if there is a single button that will print the entire document and tutorials into a single book. I still like having a hard copy of manuals that I can refer too whilst I am working without having to open page after page on a browser and getting lost in a myriad of cross references losing track of where I was at the start.

Cross references should have section/ page numbers or an appendix that one can go to for further information.

Yes this will be the next step for the documentation system. For now I'll just add it in the list because this requires a more evolved component to be installed in the website.

I've had some success just adding a Vol Envelope Release value (s) in Instruments of about .9 that has a better decay for some Instruments.
