Soundfont corrupting when trying to add more than 2977 samples.

  It seems that the maximum limit of samples is 2977.
  Going even 1 sample over this (2978) results in errors and a corrupted soundfont. Is this a known limitation?
  It seems pretty stupid that you cannot go over this limit.
  
  Also why can Polyphone continue to work with soundfonts with more than this number of samples, then as soon as you close it and reopen it, it says "corrupted" as if it cannot work with it (which it clearly can).
