I bought an sf2 collection on eBay of Yamaha Motif SF2 files. Most sound pretty good but the ones that continue to play a complex group of samples such as one I love called Tibet Ensemble. It is a pad with bells that continue to ring after the key is released on the original Motif keyboard. When the key is released with this collection, it just chops off and is useless in a musical context. I read the forums on creating second samples but this is way more complex and time consuming for the number of samples I would need to fix in this collection.
I'm sure I just don't understand the process but this SF2 has
SAMPLES
- all the samples
INSTRUMENTS
- 8 Yamaha Motif ES 054 listed under the Instruments tab and
PRESETS
- 000:013 Yamaha Motif ES 054
When I click on the preset and change "Volume env release" to 5000 or higher, I get the desired effect of the sample continuing to play and release more naturally but when I save this and import the edited SF2 in sForzando, it has no effect. I added audio of the before and after sound of changing the volume release by pressing the keys at the keyboard at the top of the Polyphony screen.
Is there a simple way to edit like this and have it playback that way?
You could try to change "Vol env release" at the instrument level rather than at the preset level, maybe it will solve the problem. sForzando is first a sound engine for the sfz format and it may ignore the preset level of an sf2 since the sfz format doesn't have it. Alternatively you can export the soundfont as sfz and play it with sForzando.
If it still doesn't work you will have to ask the sForzando community.
